A Message From Our President

David Morimoto, M.D.

As ophthalmologists we are blessed with an exciting and rapidly advancing field and ample opportunities to serve our patients. The COS provides us with a forum to stay at the front edge of the wave of new scientific discovery, to renew and maintain acquaintances with our colleagues, and to discuss our difficult cases with other members of our society.

In recent years, the COS has made deliberate efforts to be increasingly responsive to its member’s interests. Meetings are designed to be practical and relevant to the practice of ophthalmology. This website is another means by which members and other interested individuals may stay up-to-date with the workings of the Society. We hope to expand the site quickly to provide a list-serv forum for members to communicate with one another about challenging clinical cases, the practice of medicine in general, and any other issues that arise.

The COS holds 6 monthly meetings each year featuring invited speakers from all over the United States. The guest speakers are leaders in their field of expertise, pioneers of new technology, and celebrated clinicians who are renown in the care and management of patients. Each meeting is devoted to a different sub-specialty area in ophthalmology.

In addition to the guest lecture and dinner, ample time is afforded for clinical discussion and social interaction. In addition, the COS hosts an annual springtime clinical conference in the city of Rosemont in February, one and one-half days in length, during which prominent invited guest speakers from many sub-specialties unite to follow an agenda which is scientifically thought-provoking and clinically informative. All monthly and annual COS meetings qualify for Category 1 CME credit.

The COS website is divided into several sections including biographical information about the COS Council members, schedule of events, Membership information, and History of the Society.

Thank you for visiting our site, and I hope the information in it will interest newcomers to take advantage of the educational and collegial experience the Society offers. To those of you who are already familiar with the COS through membership, I hope to see you at our meetings, and look forward to your continued involvement in and proactive ideas that make our Society popular and enjoyable.
