Dr. James F. McDonnell is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at Loyola University Medical Center. He is also Director of the Strabismus and Motility Clinic at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital.
Dr. McDonnell received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. His residency training included work at the Eye Institute at the Medical College of Wisconsin and he obtained additional trainig as a resident in Emergency and Internal Medicine at Northwestern University. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology and is licensed to practice medicine in two states.
Dr. McDonnell is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the Chicago Ophthalmological Society where he is currently serving as Program Chairman, and The Chicago Pediatric Ophthalmology Society.
His clinical interest include retinopathy of prematurity, adult strabismus and pediatric strabismus.
Dr. McDonnell speaks Spanish. His hobbies include diet and nutrition, exercise, overseas volunteer work and improvisational comedy.
