Biographies

David H. Orth, M.D.

Dr. Orth is Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and Medical Director of the Irwin Retina Center at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. He is Principal Investigator for a number of NIH and NEI research projects and clinical studies including the AREDS, Complication of Age Related Macular Degeneration Prevention Trial (C.A.P.T.) and the Miravant sponsored PhotoDynamic Therapy Trial. He serves as team ophthalmologist for the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox organizations.

Jonathan Rubenstein

Jonathan B. Rubenstein, M.D., is a full professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush Medical College in Chicago, as well as an attending physician at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center and Rush North Shore Medical Center. He is the Director of refractive surgery at Rush. Dr. Rubenstein has served as principle investigator in the clinical trials of the excimer laser for PRK in astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia.

Dr. Rubenstein received his undergraduate degree in biology with honors from the University of Rochester and his medical degree with honors from Rush Medical College. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, where he was named chief resident, and completed a fellowship in cornea/external disease/refractive surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Rubenstein is Chairman of the Section of Ophthalmology at Rush North Shore Medical Center. He is a past President of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and serves as a council member.

Dr. Rubenstein is an active teacher in refractive surgery and corneal surgery courses at The American Academy of Ophthalmology meetings and has received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award. He is a frequently invited lecturer and is the author of numerous research articles.


Walter M. Jay, M.D.

Dr. Walter M. Jay is the John M. Krasa Professor of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center.

He obtained his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Jay completed a fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco.

He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Jay has considerable expertise with professional organizations and has been elected president of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness.

He also participates in prestigious national events and has served as the Chairperson of the National Eye Institute Special Emphasis Panel and was a member of the Ad Hoc-Dual Merit Review Panel of the Veterans Administration National Medical Service.

Dr. Jay's clinical interests include comprehensive ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology.

Dr. Jay enjoys running, theater and music.
